Electronic gadgets are a part of our daily life. Electronic gadgets affect our ability to communicate effectively. Nowadays you don’t need a dictionary to find the meanings of the words you just have to type it on your phone. The number of people who own electronic gadgets has steadily increased and with that, the dependency on them too.
According to a report as of January 2021 there were 4.66 billion active internet users worldwide 59.5 percent of the global population. Of this total, 92.6 percent (4.32 billion) accessed the internet via mobile devices.
Effect on Children
If we talk about children, gadgets have led to the reduced growth in physical activities. Now children spend most of their time on mobile phones, tablets, or gaming on laptops. Parents nowadays are also getting hooked on these gadgets, they do not inculcate the habit of playing outdoor with their children.
Social media Effects
If we talk about social media sites such as Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp, it is another reason for lesser time to form social circles. A few years ago free time was devoted to family but these days free time has been occupied by gadgets.
Effect on Social Interaction
The reach of electronic gadgets lowered human interaction. Now we have set some rules concerning electronic gadgets technology has made our life simpler but it is also causing a lot of negative impact on our social lives. The quality of our relationships with people around us is greatly influenced by the presence of these electronic gadgets. As we all know social interactions are a part of our existence but technology has ruined our interpersonal relationships, for example, decreasing participation in family and less face-to-face communication, etc.
Less Face to Face Communication
Electronic Gadgets have played a major role in the decline of face-to-face communication. Electronic gadgets are active in houses and everyone finds it convenient to just send a message from their bedroom to someone in the living room. Family members don’t get enough time off from their phones and tablets for face-to-face communication. The entire family is busy in their world of technology.
Attention-Deficit
Attention deficit is a major result of technology in today’s world. If we talk about children, they are not seen engaging in long-term conversations directly. They don’t have patience and are facing various health issues as well as their eyes start wandering. This problem exists not only in children but in adults as well. All this adds to the decrease in social relationships. The wide use of electronic gadgets has led to the decrease of social skills and has created an inability to find happiness in daily life. Children are so hooked to video games that they seem to live in a vague world all the time. The continuous use of electronic gadgets makes us aloof and isolated. These gadgets impact our social interactions, social relationships interpersonal, and intrapersonal communication as well.
Decreased Human Contact
Nowadays more and more people rely on technology. The coronavirus pandemic forced many people to work from home also activated online education or communication tools meaning we get even less social interaction than ever before.
Conclusion
Whether we see it positively or negatively the truth of the matter is that technology has a huge impact on our social interaction. It is our responsibility to ensure we get enough human contact in our daily lives other than digital interaction.
