December 3rd, International Day of Persons with Disabilities, is a day to help everyone have more compassion and understanding of the challenges that people with disabilities face. The day does not distinguish between intellectual and physical disabilities, and the spirit of the day is to ensure that all people in the world have equal opportunities for work, leisure, health, and success. People with disabilities can, and very often are, valuable and contributing members of society, and today is all about valuing them PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES.

Look around your community and the places you visit. If there is no housing for people with disabilities, ask the store owner, mall manager, or your elected officials to last set it up.
It's The law.HelpAsk your local senior centre or residential home or walk-in nurses at the clinic if they know someone who needs help. Offer help. Sometimes for someone with a disability, delivering medicine, delivering the mail, or picking up a few things from the grocery store (easy tasks for you) makes a big difference. Show them some compassion when you're tired or in a hurry, and in a rush, you know you can be irritable at times.
Don't criticize or take your frustration out on someone who is slowing you down. This can be a person with a disability. If so, their life is always like that, while your problems are likely fleeting. Also, don't let his bad mood spoil your day. Then a smile can soften everything.

● Raise awareness of people with disabilities
People with disabilities sometimes feel invisible in our society. People walk around them in everyday life and hardly notice them. Try to make eye contact, smile, and be available today when you seem to be having a hard time.
History of Day
The annual celebration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities was proclaimed in 1992 by Resolution 47/3 of the United Nations General Assembly. The celebration of the day aims to promote understanding of disability issues and mobilise support for the dignity, rights, and well-being of people with disabilities. It also seeks to raise awareness of the benefits derived from the integration of people with disabilities in all aspects of political, social, economic, and cultural life.
The main program of the celebrations of the International Congress Day of People with Disabilities at the UN Headquarters, New York, includes the opening, round tables, and cultural events. Member States, civil society organisations, and the private sector are invited to organise their own events to celebrate International Day to raise awareness and promote the rights and perspectives of people with disabilities around the world.
