National Brownie Day 2022

National Brownie Day is celebrated on December 8 every year. Brownie fans come along with their friends and family and celebrate this day by indulging in this warm, chewy, and rich dessert. A delicious chocolate brownie is the perfect dessert to end your night with, as you indulge in its gooey goodness.

History of National Brownie Day

Legend has it that the advent of cakes dates back to the Palmer House Hotel in 1893. Bertha Palmer, a distinguished Chicago socialite whose husband owned the Palmer House Hotel, requested a pastry chef to prepare a dessert appropriate for girls attending the Chicago World’s Columbian Exposition. She requested him to make a cake-like treat, small enough to be wrapped in boxed lunches. Which resulted in the making of the Palmer House Brownie with walnuts and an apricot glaze.

The current Palmer House Hotel serves a dessert to customers crafted from the same recipe. The name was given to the dessert someday after 1893, but its recipe cannot be found in cookbooks or journals from that time.

National Brownie Day Significance:

Brownies are available in numerous forms, they can be both fudgy or cakey, depending on their density. Brownies often have a glossy texture on the top, but this is not always true. Sometimes, the top crust is more crusted and rough. They may additionally consist of toppings like nuts, frosting, cream cheese, chocolate chips, etc. There is also a variant of brownie, which is made with brown sugar and vanilla in place of chocolate within the batter. This variation of brownie is known as a "blond brownie" or "blondie”. Brownies/blondies are mostly eaten directly by hand, and are frequently consumed with milk, served warm with ice cream (a la mode), crowned with whipped cream, or sprinkled with powdered sugar and fudge. Brownies are a common homemade treat in North America, and they are easily available in eateries and coffee houses.
