London, this year: Ariana Grande and co-star Ethan Slater begin production for a film adaptation of the hit Broadway musical Wicked. Neither of them are strangers to the musical world, with Grande beginning her career in 13: The Musical and Slater recently starring as Spongebob in Spongebob: The Musical.
Neither actor had been in the news for a while, until a month or two ago when divorce rumors began spreading about Grande and her then-husband Dalton Gomez. News outlets were quick to make assumptions about the 30 year old singer, and her apparent attempts to show off a now ringless finger.

Just a few days after this picture was taken, the rumors about the breakup were confirmed, with news outlets like TMZ declaring, “ARIANA GRANDE, DALTON GOMEZ SEPARATED, HEADING FOR DIVORCE.” While fans of the singer mourned the end of the relationship, Grande seemed ready to move on, as only a few days later it was announced that Grande had started dating Broadway star and Spongebob himself, Ethan Slater.
The timing was a little suspicious to some folks, who accused Grande of cheating on Gomez while she was in London filming for Wicked. The cheating rumors didn’t end there however, as Slater himself had been together with his wife, Lilly Jay, for ten years. Recently welcoming his first child with Jay, fans found it unlikely that Slater would begin a relationship with Grande.
That is, until it was announced that Slater was also filing for divorce. Just a coincidence? It could've been, until Lilly Jay started speaking to news outlets about how Ariana Grande tore her marriage apart, saying her and Slater’s family was “collateral damage”. She continued by saying Grande is “not a girl’s girl”, in that she cared more about her own attraction to Slater than the fact that he had a loving wife and a newborn child.

Was it worth it to end two marriages for a fling? I personally would say no. Divorce isn’t easy, especially when you have a child, as a split can affect them most of all. Slater and Jay are no exception, as Jay has said she doesn’t want Slater in their child’s life anymore. Although the Tony-nominated actor “desperately” wants to maintain an active role in raising his 11-month old, Jay doesn’t seem keen on the idea (Page Six).
Amidst the drama, Ariana Grande is now reportedly giving Slater “space” to work out divorce details with Lilly Jay. Hopefully she doesn’t move on so soon from the actor, because although they both committed wrongdoings, it would be unfortunate for Slater to be left with absolutely nothing after this scandal.
