Miss Nicaragua Sheynnis Palacios crowned Miss Universe

 


Sheynnis Palacios became the first woman from Nicaragua to be crowned Miss Universe at last night’s pageant in San Salvador, El Salvador. 


Palacios, 23, is a communicologist who wants to work promoting mental health as she had dealt with anxiety herself. Palacios had launched a TV segment named “Understand Your Mind” where she interviews experts in emotional care. 


Posting on Instagram, the official MissUniverse page commented on how Palacios prefers being away from cameras, but had stepped out into the spotlight because she believes in finding solutions for as many of the world's problems as she can. Her focus on mental health this year stems from the fact that the topic isn't focused on too much in her country.

This was the first Miss Universe held in El Salvador since 1975. This years pageant had a diverse group of eighty four contestants; including transgender candidates, mothers, as well as the first ever plus size candidate.
