Singer Rihanna is expecting her second child which she revealed Sunday evening during her halftime performance at the Super Bowl, reps confirmed.
The Grammy winner and singer captured the attention of many during her Super Bowl Halftime performance at the State Farm Stadium in Phoenix, Arizona. She is the first woman to take the stage while pregnant during the Super Bowl.
Rihanna rubbed her round stomach in the first moments of her performance in her bright red jumpsuit and unzipped jacket of her outfit.
The 2023 Super Bowl Halftime performer and her partner, Rapper A$AP Rocky welcomed their first child, a son, in May 2022.
A$AP Rocky excitedly watched and filmed her show from the brightly lit football field among several other people in the sidelines.
The 34-year-old singer opened her performance with “B*tch Better Have My Money” and performed several of her hit songs during her 12 song set list such as “Run This Town”, “Diamonds”, and “Umbrella”.
The NFL tried to get Rihanna to perform the halftime show several times back in 2018 and 2019, but she declined. However, the Barbados born singer said her eight-month-old son inspired her to finally accept their offer in a ET Canada interview on Thursday.
“When you become a mom there's something that just happens where you feel like you can take over the world and you can do anything,” said Rihanna. “It’s important for me to do this this year, it's important for representation, it's important for my son to see that”.
Rihanna’s return to the stage was highly anticipated after a seven year hiatus from releasing music and performing. Her last music album, ANTI was released January 28, 2016, ranking at #230 of Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
She last appeared on stage at the 2018 Grammy’s when she performed “Wild Thoughts” with DJ Khaled.
Though the pregnant singer took nearly a decade long break from the music scene, Rihanna became the youngest self-made billionaire in 2022.
Her renowned status came five years after launching her makeup line Fenty Beauty and four years after releasing her clothing brand Savage X Fenty, hitting the $1.4 billion net worth mark.
There is no telling when Rihanna will release her next album, but the self-made billionaire is enjoying her experience with motherhood in the meantime.
