            Littering Problem Of New York

The littering problem in New York has been one of the biggest problems that our city has been facing recently. The streets  are now filled with a lot of trash everywhere you go making the city and the streets unsanitary to live in and walk in.The streets being dirty has been ruining tourism and decreasing the rank of our city in the list of liveable cities in the world. It also adds to the pollution of our city increasing climate change and then increasing the lack of clean air in our civilization. Our waste management has been very weak in keeping up with the sanitation system of our city. Our trash space has also been increasing in number making it hard for our waste management to be able to golf all of the trash together. Since we cannot recycle all of our waste, trash space has been hard to keep in shape.

According to columbia climate, “During the COVID-19 pandemic, the city has seen increases in household garbage produced by New Yorkers under lockdown. Meanwhile, a pandemic-related city-budget shortfall resulted in a $106 million cut in the Department of Sanitation’s budget that led to a city-wide waste pile-up.I engaged Cohen in some “trash talk,” discussing shifting trends in how the city has dealt with its garbage, and what could be done to equitably improve its environmental impact. The following interview has been edited for clarity and length…When Bloomberg was mayor, at first, he also shut down recycling, but then after a couple of years he started to understand the importance of sustainability, and so things changed. I think in most elections, it’s not a particularly hot issue. But I think at some point, this issue comes back because you have to do something with the garbage”(hyperlink). This means that during covid households made a lot of garbage when the city was under lock down. The department of sanitation also had a financial cut which led the city to become more dirty. The recycling of trash was also shut down by our mayor which also aided in the issue of garbage and trash being seen around the city. Later the mayor understood the importance of sustainability and keeping the city clean.
