Origin of International Day of Yoga

On December 11, 2014, the United Nations General Assembly declared June 21st as International Day of Yoga to raise awareness of the many benefits it provides (1). Yoga is known for reducing stress, improving flexibility, and promoting overall health and wellbeing. The International Day of Yoga aims to encourage people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities to experience the benefits of yoga.


The Physical and Mental Benefits of Yoga

Yoga is an ancient practice that has been around for thousands of years. It is a practice that combines physical postures, breathing techniques, and meditation to promote physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing. Yoga has been praised for its ability to reduce stress and anxiety, improve flexibility, balance and strength, and promote overall health.

Surya Namaskar or Sun Salutation is a sequence of twelve asanas performed in a particular order. The practice of Surya Namaskar has been practised for centuries in India and is a great way to start the day.


Surya Namaskar has several benefits, including:


1. Improves blood circulation throughout the body.


2. Strengthens the muscles of the arms, back, and legs.


3. Boosts metabolism and aids in weight loss.


4. Helps to relieve stress and anxiety.


5. Improves digestion and promotes overall wellbeing.
