London's west end was illuminated with thousands of sustainable lights and a LED sign that read "Happy Ramadan" hung in Coventry Street for the first time in London's history. The purpose of this grand display was to welcome and celebrate the month of Ramadan and honor the city's 1.28 million Muslims. The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, turned on the lights and shared his views on how it depicted the city's respect for each other's beliefs and celebrations. Ramadan lights UK, a non-profit organization founded by Ayesha Desai, initiated this project three years ago and has modernized its display each year. The 2023 display at Piccadilly Circus included glittering moons and stars that depicted the moon phases that occur during Ramadan. People who came to see the display shared their positive views about this initiative in the media coverage of the event.
