Late Tuesday night in Bethel, Connecticut: Officers received calls about yelling at home on Reservoir Street. Officers mentioned two individuals suffering from gunshot wounds, Traci Jones and her husband, Lester died later that night. Lester shot his wife, Traci Jones; Traci was shot in the chest and the head and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Lester Jones was 58 years old; Jones was pronounced dead at Danbury Hospital due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. The death of Lester was ruled to be suicide. Mrs. Jones granted a restraining order against her husband a week before her death. Her safety was at risk, and officers were aware a month ago.
On January 20th, Mr. Jones was arrested by the New York State Police and charged with first-degree criminal contempt and second-degree harassment. Traci claimed to officers that her husband was threatening her over the phone.
GETTY
Officers were made aware that Mr. Jones returned to Connecticut last week and was staying with family. The application for a restraining order was reported on January 17th when Mr. Jones returned. Traci mentioned in the restraining order that “I live in constant fear” and “We were born on the same day. We will die on the same day”. Lester was clear to Traci that they would die together every chance he could; she was living in fear.
Mr. Jones was aware not to be in contact with his wife and not to be more than 100 yards away from her. The death of Mrs. Jones was a shock to her community. She was a great person and “the light of the place” as stated by her coworkers and friends. The community paid tribute to Traci on the side of the building where she worked. Flowers were placed near a picture of Traci outside of the hair salon where she worked. The small community is trying to understand how Traci Jones became another victim of domestic violence.
