Co-creators/executive producers Janine Nabers and Donald Glover produce Amazon Prime Video's original series ‘‘Swarm’’, a modern-day story set between 2016 and 2018 about a young woman’s obsession with the world’s biggest pop star.
The first episode reveals a young woman named Dre, played by Dominique Fishback, which in the next minutes elevates into something twisted on what Nabers and Glover are addressing to viewers who might feel some familiarity with the main character we meet. The episode introduced a topic that is very relevant today regarding fan culture and how fans would spend a whole paycheck for a ticket to see this person’s standup or in a concert.
The following shows viewers Dre and where she is now since the aftermath of the first episode. This next episode explores the protagonist’s goals compared to when viewers last watched her. The episode serves as a narrative from a young black woman allowing the viewers to understand where she is coming from and answering many questions. Continuing the viewers, we will meet our protagonist in an environment while injecting a transparent answer to why she is there when talking to another character who plays a vital role in Dre’s development.
Lastly, the third episode explores the obsessiveness a fan will become to defend an artist, which follows a real-life comparison to fans of either Beyonce or Taylor Swift. Moreover, the viewers will be able to see Dre in a new atmosphere when confronting the haters of her favorite artist. The story carries along to the attention of subjects that evolve around our protagonist and executes a wink to the viewers at small details after Dre confronts the haters. The three episodes serve questions since the aftermath of the pilot allows viewers to stay watching until the end of the episode.
Again, when viewers first meet Dre, she appears typically functioning as a human of color with an obsession for a music artist until an unfortunate incident in Dre changes drastically.
