According to various media reports, Deepak Teenu, a close acquaintance of Lawrence Bishnoi and a key accused in famous Punjabi singer and politician Sidhu Moosewala’s murder, has reportedly escaped from the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) Mansa unit’s custody. CIA is a special branch of the Punjab Police that investigates criminal cases related to murder, terrorism, smuggling, and kidnapping. ANI reported that Deepak Tinu escaped CIA’s custody when he was brought on remand to Mansa from Kapurthala Jail. Deepak Tinu is one of the twenty-four charge-sheeted accused in Moosewala’s murder case.
Punjabi singer and politician Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, famously known as Sidhu Moosewala, was shot dead in broad daylight near his village Moosa on May 29, 2022. When he was on his way to Jawahar Ke village in Mansa district, his car was attacked by six sharpshooters, and around 30 shots were fired. Following his death, the Punjab government faced backlashes because the government had downgraded Moosewala's security cover a few days before his murder, and the news of the downgrade was made public. Goldy Brar, who is a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi Gang, took responsibility for Moosewala’s murder. According to Punjab Police, Lawrence Bishnoi was the mastermind of the killing. He is currently in Punjab Police’s custody. The Police have issued a Red Corner warning to Goldy Brar, who is perceived to be operating from Canada. On July 4, Deepak Teenu was brought from Delhi’s Tihar Jail to Punjab by Punjab Police on transit remand.
Reacting to the reports of Deepak Teenu’s escape, Sidhu Moosewala’s mother, Charan Kaur, has criticized the Punjab government and accused the government has been providing VIP facilities to the gangsters. She also said that she had no hope of receiving justice from the Punjab government and administration. While addressing an assembly of the people, she announced that a WhatsApp number would be provided shortly. The people who wanted to organize candlelight processions in their cities and villages could reach out through that number.
