Animal Abuse In California Caught On Camera

Horrific video footage of animal abuse in Riverside, California, has emerged on Twitter. It shows a California man abandoning a dog after throwing his pit bull over a barbed wire on December 15. As the California man hurled the dog over the wire, the dog nearly reached the razor wire before plummeting to the ground.

The 8-year-old pit bull has been found and given medical care at an animal shelter. The dog’s name is “KO,” and he is microchipped. An arrest warrant was issued for the man in the video, but the California police were unable to locate him since he no longer lived at the location listed on the chip.

Medical staff at the animal shelter where KO was staying discovered that he had two severely injured eyes and was exceedingly thirsty. The police issued a statement saying that as soon as they learned the man's identity in the video, they would file charges against him for willful abandonment.

“We're now moving forward with seeking the arrest warrant because this person needs to be held accountable for such a horrible act of willful abandonment,” stated Commander of Animal Services, Josh Sisler.

Sisler explained that he is confident the abuser in the video is the dog's owner. He considered it a "miracle" that the dog did not have more horrible injuries due to the occurrence.

Animal abuse, especially abandonment, is a severe problem in the United States. An estimated ten million animals die every year from abuse. American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) estimates that roughly over three million dogs are placed in shelters annually. Unfortunately, only two million of three are adopted and put into caring homes.

This incident is not the only recent and horrific instance of abandonment in the United States. For example, local media also recently reported that a New York woman abandoned three cats in her Edmeston apartment.

If you or a loved one are aware of any animal abuse, please report it to ASPCA or PETA.
