AP says it will not use generative AI to create news stories.

The official blog of the Associated Press has published its guidelines concerning the use of generative AI. According to these guidelines, the organization's journalists are prohibited from utilizing this technology for composing news articles.

The American news agency has expressed that its employees are permitted to cautiously explore the potential of generative AI, as the conscientious integration of artificial intelligence has the potential to enhance their professional practices over time.

Nonetheless, the agency maintains that the fundamental role of an AP journalist, which involves collecting, assessing, and arranging of facts into news narratives, will remain unchanged. The organization emphasizes that it does not view AI as a substitute for journalists in any manner.

The guidelines specify that if an AI-generated artwork or illustration becomes the focal point of a news article, it can be included, provided it is distinctly identified as such within the accompanying caption.

Furthermore, the personnel are obligated to refrain from inputting confidential or sensitive data into AI tools.

The Associated Press has been deliberating on the utilization of AI ever since the agency entered into a business collaboration with OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, in the previous month.

On a different note, The New York Times has instituted a general prohibition on employing its articles and images for the training of artificial intelligence systems.

Reportedly, technology behemoth Google has developed an AI tool capable of composing news articles and has presented this product to major media corporations.
