On November 23, a Hindu boy was arrested by the police in Mithi district Tharparkar, Sindh of Pakistan upon blasphemy allegations. The boy, named Love Kumar was filed with a case under sections 298 and 158A of the Pakistan Penal Code. As per current information from social platforms, Love made a social media post in which he used the word ‘Maula’ for God. In the post, he was complaining to God that he seems to be missing because Hindu girls are being abducted from their homes while their families suffer. He mentioned that God is not listening to the grievances of these families. He also recalled ProfessorNutan Kumar who is also in jail for years on charges of blasphemy. According to Love Kumar, he has not written anything blasphemous as he was just complaining about the injustice against Hindu minorities in Pakistan, who are being deprived of their rights while they are the owners of Sindhi land. The 17-year-old boy got missing and later his relatives were informed of his arrest based on misquoting ‘Maula’ for God instead of ‘Bhagwan’ in his Facebook post.
The word ‘Maula’ is commonly used to address God in many languages including Sindhi. This word per se has nothing offensive to any religion and is a common title for God. Social media users are questioning this arrest and it has also enraged the Hindu community across the border.
