Bomb Threats Prompt Evacuation of 48 Bengaluru Schools; Declared Hoax by Police

Bengaluru, December 02, 2023: Approximately 48 schools in Bengaluru were evacuated following bomb threat emails, later determined to be a hoax by the police. Upon receiving the news, parents rushed to the schools in a panic to ensure the safe return of their children.

According to school management officials, the threatening email arrived in the school’s official email at 6:30 a.m., with some receiving it in two parts, with the second part arriving at 7 a.m. The email contained a disturbing message:

“There are explosive devices on the school grounds. On November 26, martyrs in the way of Allah killed hundreds of idolaters. It is truly powerful to hold a knife over tens of millions of thin gulps of kafirs. He falls and falls. Hundreds of Mujahideen flooded the war area in anticipation of martyrdom in the way of Allah. You are the enemies of Allah. We will kill you and your children.

Despite the claim of explosives being planted, thorough search operations found nothing suspicious on the school premises. The email ID identified itself as “Kharijites” and was sent from various addresses while masking the IP of the origin. Though confirmed as a hoax, parents remained anxious and emotional, gathering in large numbers.

Bengaluru city Police Commissioner B Dayananda said, “The bomb detection squad was dispatched to all the 48 schools where threat was reported. After thorough inspection it was found that the threat was a hoax and is a handiwork of miscreants to create tension in society. All the schools where the threat was reported have registered a complaint in different police divisions. We have initiated an investigation and are also taking into account a similar incident that was reported in April last year in Bengaluru and in different countries including Malaysia, Trinidad and Germany, a month ago.”

"The police will investigate, and I have directed them to do so. Security measures have been taken, and parents need not panic. I have instructed the police to inspect the schools and enhance security. A preliminary report has been received from the police department," stated Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah. Ongoing efforts are in place to apprehend the accused.
