Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma held a cabinet meeting at Halflong

On 19th January 2022, the Assam government held a meeting at a hill station of Halflong. It was the third cabinet meeting held outside Dispur. The Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his cabinet ministers participated in the meeting. They focused on the Covid scenario of Assam in the meeting.

The meeting started at 2:30 pm, chaired by the Chief Minister. The participating Assam Education Minister ,Dr. Ranuj Pegu, Finance Minister Ajanta Neog, Power Minister, Bimal Bora,  Rural Department Minister, Ranjit Kumar Das and other officials reached the spot before the meeting. The Cabinet meeting hall of Halflong was decorated beautifully to welcome the Chief Minister. Security had also been beefed up in the hill town with heavy fortifications.  The chief minister started his journey from Guwahati by helicopter and reached Lumding. From there he reached Halflong by road as there is no helipad in Halflong.

Before attending the Cabinet Meeting, the Chief Minister also participated in various programs. He also laid the foundation stones of several projects of the Assam Government.

In the meeting, they reviewed the Covid cases of Assam. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that amongst 2,02,00,000 people almost 1,07,20,000 people got vaccinated. Before 15th February, the Government will try to vaccinate the remaining people. Even though there are a lot of Covid infected people, however, not many have faced the need to be hospitalized so far. The Assam Government will not start a lockdown. However, if there are no beds left in hospitals for people then the government will implement restrictions.

The Chief Minister of Assam also mentioned that people who suffer from Covid will be quarantined for 7 days. After that, they have to go to their respective work. There were no rules and restrictions mentioned throughout the meeting. Through the media, participants informed that they also wanted to discuss the development of language, culture, and places but the Chief Minister did not mention anything about these.

In Assam, at present, 8,072 people are infected by the Covid-19 virus. Colleges and schools are closed due to Covid. Even though the government states to not implement lockdown, the rising Covid cases show that there is a huge chance of a lockdown in Assam.
