Following on from the results of the hearing on June 8, 2022, regarding the Civil Ministry Bill to consider same-sex couples to register their partnership, the former member of Pride Thai and member of Parliament Phalan Pracharath disagreed.
On Wednesday, June 15, 2022, another meeting was held with the result that the first stage passed or won including voting from the Thai people. Thailand's parliament has passed the marriage equality bill by a vote of 210 to 180 votes in favor (12 absent).
It should be noted that the ratification of the same-sex marriage bill must go through three stages, the first stage is voting from the community which has been won, there are still two more stages that must be passed to be officially ratified.
One of the Thai politicians Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit in a tweet on Twitter stated his support “there are only 30 countries in the world that offer same-sex marriage, hopefully, the initial steps of today's bill will bring Thailand to that point. Congratulations to everyone @ MFPThailand who has been actively campaigning all this time.”
Apart from politicians, several public figures also gave their support on IG and Twitter and raised the hashtag #1448forALL #MarriageEquality. Even today on Twitter Thailand trending number 1 #สมรสเท่าเทียม or #MarriageEquality.
