
Atishi Marlena has replaced former minister Manish Sisodia as the new Education Minister of Delhi. Education, PWD, Power, and Tourism portfolios have been given to Atishi, while Health, Water, Industries, and Urban Development portfolios have been given to Saurabh Bhardwaj. She and Saurabh Bharadwaj took oath on March 10 as ministers to the Delhi cabinet after Manish Sisodia and Satyender Jain resigned.
Since the inception of the Aam Aadmi Party, Atishi has been a stalwart of the Kejriwal Government. Up till 2018, she was the advisor to Manish Sisodia. According to the AAP's official website, Atishi was instrumental in improving the standard of education in Delhi's government-run schools.
Atishi, the new Delhi Education Minister, attended Springdale School in New Delhi for her formal education. She furthered her history studies at St. Stephen's College, where she won first place at Delhi University. She then continued on to Oxford University to complete her Master's on a Chevening scholarship. Subsequently, as a Rhodes Scholar, she obtained her second Master's degree in educational research from Oxford.
Atishi spent seven years in a small town in Madhya Pradesh before joining AAP, where she became active in organic farming and forward-thinking instructional methodologies. She represented the Kalkaji district and contested for the Lok Parliament in 2019 from the East Delhi district.
She has been allotted the AB17 bungalow on Mathura Road where Manish Sisodia was residing. According to the documents issued on March 14, Bharadwaj has been offered the former health minister Satyendar Jain's home in Civil Lines. According to PWD officials, both ministers have been requested to submit their approval to confirm that they will move into the house. Bungalows must be vacated by Sisodia, Jains by March 21, they added.
On February 28, Sisodia and Jain resigned from the Cabinet while under investigation by federal authorities over separate matters.
