Former President Donald J. Trump won the New Hampshire Republican primary with 54.5% while his rival former Governor of South Carolina and US ambassador to the United Nations (UN) Nikki Haley got 43.2% according to The New York Times published result on January 23, 2024. This is the second primary Former President Trump won after Iowa.
There has never been a non-incumbent who won both the Iowa caucuses and the New Hampshire primary and then lost the nomination according to an article published by CNN on January 24, 2024. Donald Trump won the Republican primary in New Hampshire in 2016 with 35.3% with John Kasich coming second with 15.8%.
Trump lost New Hampshire in the Presidential election in 2016 against Hillary Clinton with 47.6% for H. Clinton and 47.2% for Trump according to Politico Presidential election results published in 2016. In 2020 Trump lost again in New Hampshire in the Presidential election against President Joe Biden with 52.8 and 45.5% for Trump according to The Washington Post published result on November 24, 2020.
Former President Trump said in his victory speech “They said when you win Iowa and New Hampshire they have never had a loss there’s never been, so we are not going to be the first I can tell you”
Former Governor and ambassador Nikki Haley said after Trump won New Hampshire “This race is far from over. There are dozens of states left to go and the next one is my sweet state of South Carolina.” The South Carolina Republican primary will be in February 2024.
Former Governor and ambassador Nikki Haley was a republican Governor of South Carolina from 2011 to 2017 and was nominated by Former President Trump as UN ambassador from 2017 to 2018.
Incumbent President Joe Biden also won the Democratic primary in New Hampshire with 51.5% of the votes while his closest rival Dean Philips got 19.8 according to The New York Times published result on January 24, 2024. In 2020 President Joe Biden came fifth in the New Hampshire primary with 8.4%. while Senator Bernie Sanders got most of the votes with 25.6% according to NBC News results published on February 11, 2020.
