
A gas tanker exploded in South Africa Johannesburg east of Boksburg this sartuday morning killing several people and leaving behind a trail of destruction.
So far at least 8 people have been reported dead and a number are seriously injured with fatal injuries. Emergency services are on the scene trying to take control of the situation.
According to witnesses the gas tanker exploded near the Tambo Memorial hospital, east of Boksburg Gauteng when it drove under a low lying subway where it got stuck and went ablaze.
A witness told the social talks that part of the hospital caught the fire, several cars and two houses nearby. "I saw number of people running away from the scene their clothes tattered and burnt and some on the ground crying for help. The scene makes my blood boil," he said.
According to News 24, patients will need to be evacuated as some structures and part of the roof have collapsed in the emergency unit of the hospital.
It reported that six fire fighters from boksburg central were alerted to address the fire. While still trying to suppress the fire an explosion took place.
"My Pastor's daughter also got injured by the same fire this morning when she went to see what was happening together with others," a witness told the social talks.
The times live reports that the whole incident could have been avoided had the driver reversed the truck once its top hit the bridge. They also reported that a fire fighter also resulted injured while attending to the fire and had been taken under emergency care.
So far no information have been availed about the driver of the truck.
