General Manoj Pande Takes Command As The New Chief of Army Staff

Lieutenant Gen BS Raju was also appointed as the new Vice-Chief of the Indian Army

General Manoj Pande on Saturday holds the duty of becoming the 29th Chief of the Army Staff after superseding MM Naravane. General Pande earlier was the Vice-Chief, and he was the first officer from the Indian Army Corps of Engineers who will hold the Chief Army Staff position.

Pande's appointment will have a severe impact when India faces several challenges from its borders and amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war. Being the Army leader of the 4th most powerful defense nation after (China, the USA, and Russia), it becomes pivotal for General Pande the handling Pakistan border issues as the country recently got its new Prime Minister and also the occasional stand-off by China.

General Pande will hold the position for nearly three years or until 62, whichever is earlier. He had been one of the most prominent leaders India could have as he commanded the whole engineer regiment during Operation Parakram in Jammu and Kashmir and one of the high-altitude areas of western Ladakh.

Lieutenant General Baggavalli Somashekar Raju took charge on Sunday after General Manoj Pande was appointed the new Chief. BS Raju was serving the command of Director General Military Operations.

The stand of India in the Russia-Ukraine war has indeed been affecting the whole world as India's relations with America which is supporting Ukraine, have been subtle so far. On the other side of the world, India has been a total military dependent on Russia. Modi's government hasn't favored any of the countries, because of which Gen Pande's role has become quite crucial.

The joining also came when Modi Government was combining all the three sectors, Army, Navy, and Air force was the plan as a Theaterisation Drive for making the country more powerful for any future wars or operations.

Chief Defence Staff Gen Bipin Rawat led the plan, but he died due to a helicopter crash last year in December, and so far, appointing a new Chief Defence has been on hold.

Additional Directorate General of Public Information- Indian Army tweeted for the new Chief.
