A video circulated Monday morning showing an alleged gunman in St. Louis as he calmly loaded his firearm and shot a homeless man in broad daylight execution style.
The video captured by an unidentified witness around 10 a.m. on Monday displayed the 23-year-old gunman Deshawn Thomas exposing and casually loading his firearm next to the homeless man outside a downtown building in St. Louis, Missouri.
For a few moments, Thomas struggled with the firearm while the yet-to-be-identified victim sat calmly on the sidewalk curb, unaware of what was happening. The now deceased victim was shown in the video raising his arms, but made no attempt to flee or defend himself.
Once the gun was loaded, Thomas pointed the gun directly to the victim’s head and pulled the trigger.
“Oh my God,” screamed the witness recording the tragic incident. “He just killed him!”
Thomas fled from the scene, but was later captured by police when he attempted to enter a nearby library. Police also retrieved his weapon and shell casings upon apprehending the suspect.
Prior to the shooting, Thomas and the victim were involved in a heated argument and fight at a Shell gas station, according to the St. Louis Police Department. The victim ran away from the alleged gunman, but he proceeded to chase him.
The cause of the altercation is unknown.
After Thomas was taken into custody, The Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner's office charged him with first-degree murder and armed criminal action.
“Any homicide is unnerving,” Major Ryan Cousins told the St. Louis Dispatch at the scene, “but for this one to happen here, at this time, very much so.”
The shocking video quickly circulated throughout social media as many users reposted the video. Twitter has since then removed the video as it is too graphic to remain on their platform.
