During his stay from June 20th to 23rd, Prime Minister Modi engaged in a range of activities, including yoga sessions in New York, addressing the Congress, and attending a state dinner at the White House, where he met with over 1,000 dignitaries. Notably, he also held meetings with prominent industry leaders, including the CEOs of Google, Microsoft, and Apple, emphasizing the potential of India's progress in the field of AI.
One significant outcome of Modi's visit was his meeting with Tesla CEO Elon Musk in New York. Musk expressed enthusiasm for India's future and announced Tesla's plans to enter the Indian market, citing the country's immense promise and the Prime Minister's drive to attract investment. Moreover, Modi met with Indian and American industrialists, urging them to consider manufacturing their products in India, thus promoting the "Make in India" initiative and fostering closer partnerships.
The visit also saw the announcement of several crucial deals between India and the US. These agreements encompassed defense cooperation, partnerships in artificial intelligence, and the semiconductor industry, which holds immense importance for India's technological advancement. Given the strained relations between the US and China, the American government seeks alternatives for semiconductor manufacturing, leading to significant investments in India. For instance, Micron, an American company, pledged to invest $825 million in Gujarat to establish a semiconductor testing and assembling facility, creating thousands of jobs.
Furthermore, defense collaboration between the two nations was a key focus during the visit. The Security of Supply Arrangement (SOSA) and Reciprocal Defense Procurement arrangement (RDP) were discussed, aiming to facilitate technology transfer and trade in the defense sector. This partnership is vital for India's border security and aims to boost its defense exports.
In the realm of space exploration, India's efficient space organization, ISRO, will collaborate with NASA to establish a Human Spaceflight Corporation. Under this initiative, Indian astronauts will receive training at NASA's facilities in Houston, Texas, before embarking on a mission to the International Space Station. The joint efforts in space exploration highlight a positive future for India in the field.
Additionally, collaboration in areas such as 5G and 6G technology, joint research projects, and Google's $10 billion investment in India were among the positive developments discussed during the meetings.
