K-pop Group BLACKPINK Will Most Likely Remain Part of the YG Family

The fans of YG Entertainment's top performers, whose last album was released on September 16, 2022, will be pleased to see their favorite performers Lisa, Jisoo, Rosé, and Jennie most likely sign another contract with the YG entertainment label.

As their contract expires at the end of August, many fans were scared to see their favorite group disband after revolutionizing K-Pop for almost 7 years. Yet, according to sources,  it has been rumored that all four members of BLACKPINK have decided to renew their contracts unless there are exceptional and unexpected circumstances before the end date.

The Potential Reasons Why They Continue with YG

While new K-Pop groups keep emerging on the scene, BLACKPINK has never ceased to surprise the world by setting continual records in Korean and international music charts. With over 29 billion views on their YouTube channel and each member representing prestigious and globally renowned brands such as Channel, Yves Saint-Laurent, or even Dior, the artists have met over 1.5 million fans around the world, and closed 14 shows in North America and 10 in Europe.

Each group member has an immense impact on several businesses, especially on high fashion. For instance, Jisoo, the visual and vocalist of the group who has now surpassed 80 million views on youtube for her new solo, helped the haute couture Dior to bring a total of $45.5 million US dollars of Earned Media Value in 2022. Besides, the superstars’ image is more than established; the group is already booked to perform as main performers at the 2023 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival this month.

Why Were Fans Sceptical?

The reason why fans were so scared to see their beloved performers separate is because of YG's history of mistreatment towards their talents. The actor Kang Dong Won, for instance, decided to leave after seven years with the agency; the actor preferred to work free from any constraints imposed by agents. 2NE1 member Minzy also left the company in 2016 because of what she considered unfair contract terms and a lack of support from her company. Although several fans have expressed their deceptions regarding how many albums YG Entertainment authorized BLACKPINK to release, the girl group might be powerful enough to expect more from their agency.
