On Friday, Cenat announced he would be hosting a fan meetup in NYC where he would be giving away a variety of products including a Playstation 5. Much to his and the city’s surprise, over 1,000 fans showed up, most of them teenagers. Before Cenat even arrived, fights broke out within the crowd and police who were called to the scene had items thrown at them. Luckily, the violence was somewhat minimal, yet 65 people ended up being arrested, with 30 of them reportedly being juveniles.
Cenat made an appearance at the event rather briefly, as it was clear to him and his security personnel that the situation was unsafe. After making his way out of a tightly packed, surging crowd, he made his way back to his car and drove off. Helicopter footage shows fans hanging on to the top of his vehicle as he speeds away, many of them slipping off and falling into the street.

On Saturday, it was announced that Cenat had been placed in custody by the NYPD, although he is now released on bail. According to police, the Twitch streamer had not alerted them that he was hosting a large gathering, nor had he obtained a permit. Because of this, he was charged with unlawful assembly. Additionally, because of the violence that occurred, Cenat was also charged with inciting a riot.
In a statement made by the media company that represents Cenat, they expressed their disappointment with how the situation played out, and took accountability: “We recognize that our audience and influence is growing, and with that comes greater responsibility. We are deeply disheartened by the outbreak of disorderly conduct that affected innocent people and businesses, and do not condone behavior.”
Cenat and his media team are said to be cooperating with authorities.
