
The United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC) will be held from 27th June- to 1st July.
The event, which shall be held in Lisbon and co-hosted by Kenya, is set to bring stakeholders worldwide to discuss issues surrounding the conservation and protection of the oceans (United Nations, n.d.)
The theme of the conference is “scaling up ocean actions based on science and innovations for the implementation of Goal 14: Stocktaking, partnerships and solutions” It tackles critical issues of pollution, ocean health, and the role of governments and their societies in ensuring the governance and ecology of the ocean.
The conference is the second significant oceans conference after the first one took part in 2017 in New York and the Fiji Islands. The conference will benefit Lisbon and Nairobi and further strengthen their role in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals developed by the United Nations in partnership with 191 other countries.
