Warner Bros Pictures released the second teaser of the summer 2023 Barbie movie, and some questions are speculated about whether this movie will be an anticipated masterpiece or a forgetful flop.
Years before, Academy Award-nominated writer/director Greta Gerwig and Oscar nominee Noah Baumbach were involved in this project. The idea for a live-action Barbie movie was “initially announced back in 2009 that underwent multiple iterations and passed along to different studios in addition to the replacement of screenwriters and headlines about Amy Schumer or Anne Hathway to play the title character. One rumor hinted Lady Gaga was in consideration for the role of Barbie, but Margot Robbie was cast instead as the pink-wearing fashion doll in January 2019.” according to IMDb.
The two teasers don’t reveal much about the plot but stray curiosity on what Gerwig and Baumbach throw at audiences when the film wraps up post-production, and a soon official trailer. The first teaser reveals a fast, timely glimpse of Barbie land and who else will star alongside Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken.
The new teaser plays nostalgia for anyone who owned a Barbie and drops teases of history regarding the fashion doll. And, from the looks of this new teaser, the Kens are very competitive with each other for the attention of Barbie and throwing gender politics.
The first teaser does not unveil any plot details. Still, it starts a conversation leaving room for anticipation for this film once post-production wraps up and becomes available to be released as an official trailer or in theaters.
Although both teaser trailers show the cast's awareness of starring in a Barbie movie, both trailers flex a societal and political commentary while tossing satire about Barbies and the Kens.
