Marvel Drops Jonathan Majors after Domestic Assault Conviction

Marvel Studios has dropped Emmy-nominated actor and Marvel star Jonathan Majors after he was convicted of assaulting his then-girlfriend.

On Monday, a jury in New York found that Majors attacked and harassed British choreographer Grace Jabbari during an argument in March 2023.

After the verdict, Marvel’s studio spokesperson said that they would no longer be working with the 34-year-old actor.

This marks an incredible fall from grace for the Majors, who had been set to feature in multiple Marvel films.

Instead, the actor could now face up to a year in prison for his crimes. His sentencing will be in February.

Majors starred in the Marvel franchise as the villain Khang the Conqueror. He starred in Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantomania, while also featuring in season 2 of Loki on Disney+.

Marvel had already delayed the release dates for Avengers: The Khang Dynasty. Majors had been set to perform in the starring role of the film. The actor had also been touted to perform in the follow-up film, Avengers: Secret Wars.

There is yet to be an official confirmation as to whether Marvel plans to replace Majors with another actor or if Marvel will write his character “Khang the Conqueror” out of the films.

Magazine Dreams, a film that has been rumoured to be an Oscar contender and stars Majors, has now, also been delayed.

Meanwhile, the Creed 3 star has also been dropped by the US Army after having previously been featured in a major advertising campaign.

Details from the case

The actor's former girlfriend, Grace Jabbari, was left with a fractured finger, a bruised face, and a cut behind her ear after an argument started between them over a phone while they were in a car hire in New York City.

Details from the case revealed that an argument ensued and subsequent injuries were inflicted on Ms. Jabbari after she saw text messages on Mr. Majors's phone from another woman. The text message read, “Wish I was kissing you right now.”

In order to get his phone back, Majors twisted the arm of Ms. Jabbari behind her back before subsequently hitting her head.

Major’s has been found guilty of assault by recklessly causing injury as well as harassment. However, the jury did acquit the actor on the charges of aggravated harassment and assault with intent to cause physical harm.
