On Saturday night, Miss USA R’Bonney Gabriel was crowned “Miss Universe” in New Orleans, Louisiana. In the life of women, there are obstacles that we overcome to succeed in a fabricated world. In a society governed and run by leaders, we feel unseen and silenced through the actions they do every day. This makes women feel less noticeable without a voice to speak about their opinions, express themselves, or not have a moment for their voices to get heard so they can encourage and empower others. The process of communication and women’s rights have developed in numerous ways, allowing women the power to be prominent/ influential leaders and entrepreneurs in society.

As for Gabriel, a long-time Houstonian, she has lived her career in a series of pageant appearances as Miss Texas, Miss USA and the clothesline industry. Nonetheless, life as a woman did not come easy for her while being raised in a household in America. She has shown artistic excellence in her passions and talents, inspiring as an exemplary figure for other women around the country and beyond. On Saturday, CEO Anne Jakkaphong Jakrajutatip hosted an opening ceremony as crowded fans from many countries in attendance came to watch and support who was the next woman to be crowned Miss Universe. Including celebrity musicians, Tank and the Bangas, Yolanda Adams, Nola native singer Amanda Shaw and many more. As a top finalist, Gabriel was selected in the top 16 women to continue on the last day of the competition. During her performance at the swimsuit representation, she walked in an orange swimsuit with a cape saying, “If not now, then when?” expressing a moving message for the audience sharing how Van Gogh’s character inspired her to create a better way of living for helping women and the environment. Each of her clothing designs shares a unique message of how she plans to build a sustainable lifestyle by wearing eco-friendly clothing that will not endanger the planet.

In a present-day world, one of the most popular topics spoken by humans is climate change and the effects of global warming. In reference, we as humans try to find solutions to prevent climate catastrophes by recycling materials that endanger the earth’s surface. Every day we find new ways to manifest a pleasant environment for ourselves and our kids in a world free of air pollutants. For example, using fewer fossil fuels, driving electric cars, and recycling paper and plastic to resell for our storage necessities. Towards the end, with a black-blue dress that she designed herself, Gabriel qualified for the top 5, where she was selected to interview questions from the judges beside the stage. Through a Q&A stage interview, she shared that if she is reins as the next miss universe, her purpose is to bring opportunities for girls and women to achieve an education, help the planet, and empower women to be their best selves, including victims of domestic violence. As an American woman, she comes from a family of Philippine roots of immigrant parents who migrated to the states in the 80s. After the Q&A, she was chosen to the top 2 as the announcement concluded, “the winner is….. the winner is Miss USA!” Gabriel became crowned as the 71st Miss Universe to win in a pageant after competing for years in the Miss Universe organization. She is the first to achieve a college education in her family and the first oldest woman in the Miss Universe Pageant to be crowned at 28 years old.

To conclude, the beauty of women comes in different shapes and sizes of how we style and build our personalities to represent who we are in the world. Making a difference to empower women to be future leaders in the world is increasing each day. R’Bonney is the perfect example of what women need to see so they can follow in their footsteps to achieve their dreams, not just to get an education but also to inspire younger women and girls through"Magpies and Peacocks" a fashion design non-profit for who want to be fashion designers in the future. Gabriel is now the 71st miss Universe and plans on serving her contribution to help women in domestic situations and comply with her duties to help children around the globe.
