
India on the night of 2 June saw the biggest railway disaster taking away 233 people's lives and 900 injured.
A journey that won't be forgotten by the families whose loved ones lost their lives during the collapse of two coaches of 12864 (SMVB-HWH) Yashwantpur- Howrah Express derailed at Bahanaga Railway station in Balasore district
There was a three-way accident in Bengaluru - Howrah super fast Express, the Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express, and a goods train.
The whole passenger section got crushed as another carriage bounced over its roff "When I got out of the train, I saw limbs scattered all around; a leg here, a hand there. Someone's face was disfigured," said the survivor to NDTV
As June is the month of holidays for everyone, the general coach was fully packed with passengers and overcrowded mostly it was difficult for the rescue team to locate them many passengers who were in the general coach lost their lives
Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister of Railways of India stated "Ex - gratia compensation to the victims of this unfortunate train accident in Odisha;10 lakh in case of death and 2 lakh toward grievous and 50,000 for minor injuries
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced ex - gratia of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund( PMNRF) Rs 50,000 would be given to the next of kin of each deceased in the train mishap in Odisha. Modi will visit the train accident site and call for a high-level meeting with railway officials as it is the biggest train crash tragedy in the nation.
Helpline numbers have been issued by the railway department and the government of Odisha
This train incident is the biggest challenge for the government and railway department as the public and families are questioning the government and their work and the protection and safety of the public that the railway department assures.
