Opposition Block India Boycotts 14 News Anchors, BJP Criticizes Heavily

The Opposition INDIA alliance on Thursday announced that it will boycott 14 News anchors across several channels. The day after K.C. Venugopal announced that INDIA would boycott shows by some anchors, today INDIA published a list of Anchors. The decision was taken by the INDIA coordination committee in its meeting on September 13, Wednesday.

According to the statement, INDIA parties will not send their representatives to the shows and events of these anchors. The Anchors included are Arnab Goswami of (Republic TV), Aditi Tyagi (Bharat Express), Aman Chopra (Network 18), Amish Devgan (News18), Anand Narasimhan (CNN-News18), Ashok Shrivastav (DD News)

Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera justified the decision. "Some channels have put up 'nafrat ka bazaar' for nine years. We do not want to legitimize a hate-filled narrative that corrods our society. We have taken this decision with a heavy heart. We do not hate any of these anchors, but we love our country more", he said in the video.

The BJP heavily criticized the INDIA alliance, comparing the decision to boycott with the Emergency. "The only instance we have seen of civil liberties being curtailed in India was during the Emergency in 1975", said the Union Minister for Housing & Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri in a post on X. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also criticized the move. “Today, the INDIA Alliance has boycotted a few journalists. If these people come to the government, the first thing they will do is impose press censorship”, said Sarma.

The INDIA bloc held its first coordination meeting in New Delhi on Wednesday. The meeting was held at the residence of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar. Over two dozen opposition parties have formed the Indian National Development Inclusive Alliance.
