Pharrell Williams is an American born on April 5, 1973, is a rapper, singer, songwriter, music producer, drummer, and fashion designer. In recent weeks this exposed all fashion sites on the planet for being the new male creative director of one of the largest and most recognized brands in the world, Louis Vuitton.
The Louis Vuitton brand bet on Pharrell Williams, constituting a new chapter for the brand after Virgil Abloh, who was an American fashion designer, who gained fame as artistic director of men's Louis Vuitton and then created his brand with worldwide success Off-White, but unfortunately, he died in November 2021. The brand confirmed this past week (07), via Instagram, in a post.
New CEO Pietro Beccari begins his movements within the company with this great appointment. The CEO states "His creative vision beyond fashion will undoubtedly take Louis Vuitton to a new and very exciting chapter." "I am happy to welcome Pharrell back home, after we collaborate in 2004 and 2008 for Louis Vuitton, as our new Men's Creative Director."
The appointment put an end to months of speculation about who would be taking one of the most important jobs within fashion. There have been several names during this time of conjecture such as designers Martine Rose, Grace Wales Bonner, and Telfar Clemens. But this unexpected decision to call up Pharrell caused a bit of a stir among the company, fashion lovers, critics, and even the singer's fans.
Abloh has built an empire within the brand and since 2018 when he was appointed, he has made history by bringing a streetwear aesthetic to the world of luxury and especially to the right-hand side of Louis Vuitton, the traditional house. But Pharrell Williams also has strong and longstanding connections to the streetwear scene, for example being co-founded the pioneering streetwear brand Billionaire Boys Club.
But fashion has always been present in Pharrell and his relationship is long-standing and always highly praised. He appears in 2005 with Louis Vuitton when he signed a mini collection of glasses, jewelry, and accessories when the creative director was still Marc Jacobs. Also, his partnerships with Tiffany and Chanel are very successful, being one of the only global male ambassadors of the brands. Apart from his Billionaires Boys Club brand or his high-performance line with Adidas called Human Race.
His first and most awaited collection is scheduled for June in the fashion capital, during the men's fashion week in Paris.
