Prime Minister Modi Says “5G Will Revolutionize Education”

The 5G telecommunications service launching this month will take the country's education system to the next level, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Wednesday at the launch of the Gujarat government's "Mission Schools of Excellence" project in Gandhinagar district.

The Prime Minister spoke after launching the Government of Gujarat School of Excellence initiative in Adalaj town, Gandhinagar district. He pointed out that knowledge of English is considered a sign of wisdom even though English is only a means of communication.

"Some say we've seen 2G, 3G, 4G, and now 5G, and so what's the big difference? If I had to explain from a layman's point of view the benefits of 5G technology, I would argue that if 4G is a bicycle, then 5G is an airplane," said Prime Minister. He added that young students can now experience the power of virtual reality and the Internet of Things at schools.

With 5G, we will be able to go beyond smart facilities, smart classrooms, and smart teaching. It will only be a matter of time before our education system is taken to the next level," said Prime Minister Modi.

Prime Minister Modi also tracked the improvement of the education sector in Gujarat over the past two decades. He said that 20 out of every 100 students dropped out 20 years ago. Many of them dropped out before 8th grade. The situation is even more difficult for girls who are not allowed to attend school.

During these two decades, the people of Gujarat have introduced a transformation of the education system in their state. More than 1.250,000 new classrooms have been built in the state. In addition, more than 20,000 teachers have been employed. Prime Minister Modi, recalling several initiatives taken when he was a youth. From 2001-14 when he became Prime Minister.

The tech industry in India is growing exponentially, bringing about a paradigm shift in the teaching and learning process. Changing trends have shifted educational momentum from the classroom to devices and created demand for virtual classrooms, e-learning, video conferencing, and online supervision using artificial intelligence technology tools.

Industry experts attribute the growth of the EduTech industry to Students and Teachers who are willing to adapt to the change. They also attribute this to parental involvement and awareness and the active involvement of parents. This pandemic has accelerated this development even more as virtual learning is becoming a new way of learning.

Technology can reduce the student's effort in collecting certain printed books and magazines to acquire knowledge and enhance student focus on the knowledge-gathering process. Equally significant, technology can represent education in ways that help students understand the latest concepts and ideas.

Educational technology also allows teachers to incorporate project-based learning. With the guidance of effective teachers, students of different levels can use these tools to acquire knowledge and develop skills needed in modern society. It includes clue presentation and analytical skills.
