The war started by Russia in Ukraine has continued to wreak utter tragedy amongst the Ukrainian citizens. Most recently, a residential district was bombed by Russia in the last couple of hours and has left over 20 dead amongst the rubble of a beautiful city. However, Russia claims that it will further increase its ground-based invasion forces as well as the continuing bombing of innocent civilians.
There was a video released along with the reports about the bombing and it would sadden any individual because of how the carnage of the scene was transcribed onto footage. In the footage, we can see buildings collapsing and being hit by ballistic missiles, for the buildings seemed to be the main target for the strike. Also, we saw cars on fire and citizens running for their lives because they were afraid of more strikes from their eastern neighbors.
Russia also struck a civilian transport station in the city of Mykolaiv early. They managed to kill more innocent people by hitting bystanders, transportation, and hotels just to name a few pieces of the infrastructure. Among the dead were children, the elderly, and people living their normal lives, so understandably the Ukrainian government is distraught over these recent attacks. However, Russia claims that all civilian deaths were accidental and no one in the military is aiming for them.
Ukraine is fighting back against Russian authority, due in part to their alliances with western states. Their main goal is to use long-range artillery to pinpoint certain key aspects of the invading Russian military force. So far though, Russia does seem to be winning and continuing its attacks on more residential locations.
Recently, Russia carried out a strike on a residential area in Chasiv Yar which has a death toll almost totaling 50 people as of right now. Ukraine stated in a public release that the strike made no strategic sense because only civilians were injured or killed in the strike. So the attack only served to put fear into the hearts of Ukrainians by killing innocents.
With the death toll of innocents and Russian military strikes both increasing at the same rate, it doesn’t seem like the conflict will end in the near future. Numerous states in the west are lending their financial and moral support to Ukraine, for none of them can formally attack Russia because it would lead to a possible world war (3).
