Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu also known as Sidhu Moose Wala was shot dead by attackers on Sunday evening. The 28-year-old rapper had a huge fan following. He was driving an SUV when the attackers blocked his car in Mansa district and fired more than 30 bullets. The incident took place a day after the Punjab police withdrew the security cover of 424 people, including Sidhu Moose Wala. He had joined the Congress last year before the Punjab Assembly elections. Moose Wala was constantly criticized for allegedly promoting violence and gun culture in his songs as well as hurting religious sentiments.
Canada - based gangster Goldy Brar claimed the responsibility for the murder of singer-politician Sidhu Moose Wala. Goldy Brar is a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. Brar is currently lodged in Tihar jail and claimed responsibility for the murder via a Facebook post. The Bishnoi gang extorts money from the liquor mafia, Punjabi singers, politicians and other influential people. His partner Sandeep was recently arrested by the Delhi Police.
Balkaur Singh, father of Sidhu demanded an apology from Punjab Police and asked for action against the officers who publicized the notice of withdrawing security of Sidhu Moose Wala and other VIPs in the state. He has also demanded the probe through a sitting judge in the high court, handing over investigations to CBI or NIA. The Punjab High Court has asked for a detailed report on the number of people whose security was reduced or withdrawn and its reasons.
On Monday, police teams from Punjab and Uttrakhand detained six people from Dehradun, news agency ANI reported, quoting police sources.
The singer was cremated today at his ancestral village, Jawaharke. A huge crowd joined the funeral procession and bid a tearful goodbye to the late singer. The cremation was done in the presence of a large police force to ensure that the ceremony remained peaceful.
