The company known as AIR MILES started in Canada in 1992, according to the AIR MILES official website. Their website states that LoyaltyOne, Co., a Loyalty Ventures Inc. business, owns and runs this well-known company. AIR MILES has been a popular choice for a rewards card over the years as their website explains that their member's card was being used over a thousand times per minute.
AIR MILES attracted Canadian citizen’s attention due to the many rewards that could be redeemed after a certain amount of AIR MILES Cash and or Dream Miles were collected. There was the option of physical rewards, the ability to exchange AIR MILES Cash rewards in-store to lower the cost of an item, event tickets, travel tickets, and more, as shown on the AIR MILES official website.
Unfortunately, this well-known company received some sad news earlier this month. Anis Heydari on CBC stated that AIR MILES had experienced some difficulties because Sobeys and Safeway quite the AIR MILES program.
Apparently, both Sobeys and Safeway have decided to switch from AIR MILES to a different loyalty program called Scene+. This particular loyalty program is known for its relation to Cineplex, a Canadian movie theatre.
This switch is because of a Canadian grocery store company known as Empire Company Ltd. This company owns Sobeys, Safeway, Foodland, FreshCo, Needs, Thrifty Foods, Les Marches Tradition, Rachelle Bery, and Lawtons Drugs. Empire Company Ltd. stated that they had decided to quit the AIR MILES program and replace it with the Scene+ program.
The official date that Sobeys and Safeway will no longer be a part of the AIR MILES program is going to be between August 2022 and the beginning of 2023, as shared by Anis Heydari on CBC.
Unfortunately, Sobeys and Safeway are not the only companies that have decided to quit the AIR MILES program. The website known as milesopedia.com explained that the computer and office supply store, Staples, has decided to leave the AIR MILES program. However, their date for leaving the AIR MILES program is sooner than Sobeys or Safeway. Starting July 1, 2022, people shopping at Staples will no longer have the option to save or redeem their AIR MILES.
If you are someone who has been using AIR MILES and still have AIR MILES to save at Staples, Sobeys, or Safeway, it would be a good idea to redeem them before the end of the AIR MILES era.
