Tragic Crash Claims the Lives of Illinois Residents in Ammonia Incident

The deceased were identified as Kenneth Bryan, 34, of Teutopolis, and his two children, 7-year-old Rosie Bryan and 10-year-old Walker Bryan, both from Beecher City, Illinois.


Effingham County Coroner Kim Rhodes revealed that exposure to anhydrous ammonia was the apparent cause of death for the five individuals. Anhydrous ammonia is a clear, colorless gas used primarily as a nitrogen fertilizer in farming. It is considered to be one of the most dangerous chemicals in agriculture due to its toxicity.


In the wake of the tragedy, multiple agencies have joined forces to investigate the cause of the crash and the subsequent release of anhydrous ammonia. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), in collaboration with the Illinois State Police and the Effingham County Sheriff's Department, has deployed a team of experts to conduct a thorough safety investigation.
