Tripura's Deputy CM Introduces India's First "Bio Village Solar Hamlet."

The Tripura government constructed a "Bio Village Solar Hamlet" on November 5 in Kharansing Para, a remote hamlet in Tripura's Gomati district, around 80 kilometers from Agartala.

Jishnu Dev Varma, Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Science and Technology has formally launched the Bio Village Solar Hamlet.

In India, the idea of a biovillage existed long before the country saw its Green Revolution. In contrast to the Bio Village, this new community is a hybrid of the original Bio Village and the Solar Hamlet. As a result, it has been given the name "Bio Village 2."

Whereas organic farming would be the exclusive emphasis of a typical bio village, we have added additional ways, such as livestock support and mushroom growing, as well as solar-powered water pumps for a second harvest.

Because our research revealed that locals were becoming ill from drinking water from local streams and canals, we also established a water filter farm to ensure that all water consumed was safe and clean. The minister dubbed this "Bio Village 2" and stated that he was unaware of a similar project in India.

The minister claimed the concept was independently developed by the Tripura government's research and technology department.

"We've given them biogas to help them save money on gas cylinders; solar stoves for smokeless cooking that doesn't destroy the environment; and we'll be teaching them how to trade in the stock market so they can improve their income," Dev Varma told this publication.

As part of its effort to assist rural towns in growing their economies, the department has also installed solar-powered lighting.

We have also used solar energy to illuminate tribal marketplaces because we now know that farmers must arrive early in the morning, when they are most productive, allowing them to work all day and sell their wares in the evening. "It's something we've done all over Tripura, but particularly in aspirational blocks, to improve local economies," he added.

Also, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is aware of it and discussed it in his Maan Ki Baat address. The minister said, "In our government, we believe that the last must come first, and this is how development happens."
