There was once a quote that stated, “Maybe love can kill better than hate,” and its relevance is apparent in these spine chilling stories of three women who were killed by the hands of their lover. The first story involves Nikki Yadav, whose body was stuffed inside a fridge, Megha Dhansingh Torvi, whose body was found inside a box bed and Sharddha Walker, whose body was cut into 35 pieces and stored inside a fridge.
Nikki Yadav
On February 14, 2023, Sahil Gehlot got arrested for allegedly killing Nikki Yadav and had married another woman on the same day.
Sahil and Nikki were living together, which was seen as abominable in the eyes of Sahil’s parents , who did not like the relationship he had with Nikki. Sahil’s parents started to arrange a marriage for him. On the other hand, the couple headed for Anand Vihar ISBT intending to visit the hills on the 10th of February and then the two drove there since the buses to their destination had left. Sahil’s mother started to call him regularly as various ceremonies were lined up for his marriage. While driving to the Kashmere Gate, the couple had a heated up argument and Sahil strangled her inside the car. Then he went to his Dhaba via Paschim Vihar, dumped the body inside the fridge and he rushed home to get married within 6-8 hours time. He spoiled the life of two women on the same day, one is by killing Nikki and second is by marrying Trisha on the same day. Nikki’s father Sunil Yadav received the body from the mortuary at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital for the final rituals. The father said, “She was an intelligent girl and we demand capital punishment for the accused.” During the investigation they found out that Nikki and Sahil secretly got married in October 2020.
Lately on February 22, Sahil Gahlot was sent to 12-day judicial custody. All accused will now be produced in court on March 6. Gahlot’s two cousins and two friends are among those arrested.
Megha Dhansingh Torvi
On February 13th, Hardik Shah, a 27 year old man, was arrested for killing his 35 year old live-in partner.
Torvi and Shah rented a house in NalaSopara (East), Mumbai by lying that they were married. Shah did not have any job and according to the reporters he is the son of a diamond merchant from Malad. He got kicked out of the house by his father a few years ago after he stole cash and expensive items inside the house. Shah and Torvi had an explosive argument on 12th february about money, which resulted in Shah strangling Torvi to death. As Shah didn’t have any money, he sold all the utensils and furniture for 4,500 except the box bed where he kept the body inside, then bought a train ticket to Rajasthan and fled away the next day. In the following day Torvi’s aunt contacted the real estate owner Sanjeev Thakur and informed him about the strange accusation Shah put up on her. Thakur went to see but the apartment was locked outside. Shah’s mobile was unreachable and there was a strange smell coming from inside. Cops arrived at the scene and forced themselves inside the house. Cops noticed that all the furniture was missing. The bad odour drew them to the bed where they found Torvi’s body inside with strangling marks on her neck. Police found out that Shah took Paschim express and got arrested in Nagda railway junction, Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday with the help of Railway authorities. Shah was brought to Mumbai and after an enquiry he admitted killing Trovi.
Sharddha Walker
This is the case that shook the entirety of India in 2022. Aaftab Amin Poonawala was arrested by the Delhi Police on 12 November 2022 for killing his live-in partner Sharddha Walker over an argument about Shraddha wanting to get married and chopped her body into 35 pieces.
Sharddha met Aaftab through the popular dating app, Bumble. Coincidentally they worked in the same call centre and both were residents of Vasai, Palghar District, Maharashtra. Sharddha and Aaftab moved in together in 2019. Sharddha’s family was against this live-in relationship and questioned her for moving in with a boy she barely knew. On May 15 2022, they moved to the flat in Delhi just after 3 days she got killed. Aftab was planning to kill her for months but his love made him delay. Aftab knows how to preserve flesh as he trained in the Taj hotel. The police also found that he ordered ice, agarbatti, polythene bags, room fresheners and chemicals to clean the floor and to keep the body pieces. He bought a new 300-litre fridge to keep her 35 body pieces and also a saw. He then charred her face to hide the identity. Over the next 18 days Aaftab disposed of the body parts separately everyday at 2PM to avoid suspicion in the Delhi forest areas, Mehrauli. Within a week Aaftab fell in love with another woman and gifted her the ring which was given to Shraddha. This crucial murder came to light only after 6 months when Shraddha’s father filed a missing complaint. The police got the audio clip of Shraddha and Aaftab fighting. The police also found bones and hairs from the forest area which matched Shraddha’s DNA. Later Aaftab confessed to the crime and during the interrogation he said that he got inspiration from the American crime series ‘Dexter’. Shraddha’s father couldn't believe it and he demanded death penalty for Aaftab in court.
