Bajrang Dal Group Behind of Bihar Sharif violence, says Police

On March 31, Friday, a procession of a Hindu group celebrating Ram Navami vandalised a mosque and set it on fire in Biharsharif, a town in Bihar’s Nalanda district. The violent mob is also accused of targeting Muslim properties in the town.

Similar incidents were also reported in Sasaram, the district headquarters of Rohtas. Prohibitory orders have been imposed in both towns.

The armed mob of roughly 1,000 individuals vandalised the 110-year-old library. Petrol bombs were thrown at the mosque and the library by the saffron crowd.

According to the Bihar Police, Hindutva activist Kundan Kumar was the brains behind the anti-Muslim violence that occurred during the Ram Navami celebration in Bihar Sharif on Monday.

Kumar is the district convener of Bajrang Dal Nalanda. Kumar was detained on April 8 after surrendering and the administration began seizing his assets.

"He [Kundan Kumar] is accused of illegally gathering a large crowd in the name of a Ram Navami procession in Bihar Sharif." "That mob erupted into violence," Nalanda Superintendent of Police Ashok Mishra told The Telegraph.

According to NDTV, the Bihar Police stated that Kundan Kumar and another accused person, Kishan Kumar, planned and carried out the anti-Muslim violence in Bihar Sharif using social media and a WhatsApp group with 456 members.

Kundan and Kishan Kumar disseminated bogus films about Muslims on WhatsApp, inciting other users to commit violence against them, according to Jitendra Singh Gangawar, Additional Director General of Police.

Ram Navami Processions in numerous Indian states have been disrupted by violence and vandalism directed towards Muslims. All of the occurrences in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Telangana, West Bengal, and Gujarat included hate speech and stone-pelting at sites of worship and shrines. Locals claim around 8-10 Muslim-owned shops were targeted and set on fire. Digital Duniya, a Muslim-owned shop was looted and torched.
