Reviewing The Looks From The NMACC

Last Friday marked the opening of the NMACC ( Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre). During this two day inauguration event, the world was presented with all that India has to offer in the realms of music, theatre, dance, and art. Through each exhibition and performance, the spectator embarked on an extensive journey tracing back to years of India’s rich, cultural heritage.  However, the cultural centre was not all that was talked about. Some our Bollywood and Hollywood favourites also made an appearance at this exclusive event, and their outfit choices became the talk of the town.

So let’s review a couple looks from the evening :

Alia Bhatt

Arguably, one of the best dressed on both evenings, Alia’s looks were absolutely to die for. On day one the inauguration ceremony, the Gangubai actress was dressed in a silver, pleated saree from  Vaishali S Couture. She paired this with a sophisticated off the shoulder blouse, covered in

3D flowers, perfectly accentuating her collarbones. To complete the ensemble, Alia wore a diamond chocker, large, floral earrings and a much needed cuff bracelet. For makeup and hair, she went for a more natural and simplistic approach; the no makeup- makeup look and an elegantly styled low bun.

On day two, Alia opted for a more western approach, selecting a piece from Elie Saab's Spring/ Summer 2023 Haute Couture collection. She wore a stunning, golden floor length dress with silver embellishments encrusted throughout. An outfit truly fit for a queen. For her jewellery, she returned to India for inspiration, adding a pair of classic diamond polki karnphool and once again a choker. This time she went for a smokey, eye look and let her hair out in natural waves. This look was definitely a bit bolder and sexier, but it still looked effortlessly regal.

To end the two days of festivities, she blessed us one more outfit which she wore at the NMACC after party. From Krikor Jabotain’s collection, she selected an ivory coloured, off the shoulder miny dress. The figure hugging, ruffled dress was definitely the most playful of the three looks. It gave her a beautiful silhouette and the carefully placed red embellishments were a perfect addition. For finishing touches she wore a pair of gorgeous dangly, red earrings and Louboutin heels.

Shraddha Kapoor

Beauty Queen, Shraddha Kapoor surprises us time and time again; and this was no exception. She arrived on day two of the inauguration event and simply blew us all way in a Manish Malhotra designed paithani saree gown. The black one-shouldered garment with a beautiful sweetheart neckline trailed off into this amazing red, floral design which also formed the pattern on the bust. We were impressed to find out that she did her makeup herself. She too opted for a clean no makeup- makeup look and a low bun for her choice of hairstyle. They jewellery on the other hand was everything – a layer of chockers coupled with rings and chunky golden bangles. Perhaps there is a running theme - low buns, minimal makeup and adored with jewellery. Of course, we can’t forget her bindi! Shraddha truly knows what looks good on her, and she makes it work.

Kiara Advani and Siddharth Malhotra

A expected, the newly wedded couple also made an appearance on day one of the NMACC. Kiara was dressed in a beautiful haute couture lengha custom made by Manish Malhotra.  The blouse consisted of intricately stitched pearls paired with a beige mermaid style skirt which was covered in zardozi, pearls and swaroski crystals. An unnecessary, golden banarasi tissue drape was added to finish the look. Her hair was perfectly straightened, and her bold eye look complemented her outfit beautifully. All in all this look was stunning.

Siddharth was also dressed in a beige fit to match his wife. He opted for the traditional kurta look layered with a blazer with golden threadwork. The duo definitely was amongst the best dressed couples of the night.

Zendaya

Our favourite Euphoria star Zendaya simply shined on the night of the inauguration, and to be honest we did not expect anything else. This look was definitely one of the best that night. She was styled beautifully in custom Rahul Mishra. The deep blue, hand embroidered verdure saree gown was coupled with a silver bralette adorned with flying cranes. As for makeup, she did it herself.  It was nothing dramatic; a  clean, shimmery look and yet again a loose bun. A perfect debut outfit for the NMACC.

Gigi Hadid

Gigi outfit left us all in gasps – it was everything ! Styled in Khosla, the model wore a chickankari saree inspired by south Indian temple jewellery. The short sleeve, bejewelled blouse trailed of in  golden tassels. The skirt and drape of the saree itself were chickkari and subtly embellished with crystals to give an elegant, understated appearance. She lets the outfit be the star of the show. Her makeup was all natural and her hair  was tied back in a slick bun. To complete the look she wore a pair of sizable, square earing and a series of chunky golden bangles. She took to Instagram to explain that the dress was produced in Lucknow and took a year to make, not surprising given the excellent craftsmanship of this piece.

Priyanka and Nick

This review would not be complete without Priyanka Kapoor Jonas and her husband Nick. On the first day of the event Priyanka was dressed in a piece from Ellie Saab’s Haute Couture Autumn/ Winter 2022 collection. The rhinestone bodice trailed off into a sheer pink skirt with crystals sporadically placed onto the tulle. Added onto it was a floral cape which draped around her shoulder and neck made from the same sheer fabric. She went for minimal jewellery: a Bvgari  bracelet and a full glam makeup look. This look certainly leaves more to be desired. The addition of the cape was wholly unnecessary. It felt almost overwhelming. Nick on the other hand chose a simple all black ensemble with a laced top, black blazer and trousers – a little on the safe side but it’s still a pass.

Priyanka certainly made up for day one with her day two look. She served us with custom Amit Agarwal in a piece constructed using 60 year old Banarisi brocade stitched together with silver threads. For the bustier of her ensemble, Agarwal made use of a holographic sequin sheet. This look was vibrant and fun – a nice change from the regal and refined looks from other celebrities. Priyanka’s soft yet messy waves, glam makeup, and diamond chocker only enhanced the playful vibe of her dress.  In total, it took 6 months to produce but it was definitely worth those long hours. Agarwal’s saree/dress is a truly exceptional piece of work with a rich history;  perhaps the most appropriate outfit to wear to celebrate Indian heritage and culture. Nick Jonas stepped us a bit as well  Although he maintained the all black look, he did it in Manish Malhotra this time and it suited him. It wasn’t anything exceptional, but you can never go wrong with all black.
