The Premier League was graced by one of the finest goals the league has ever seen. Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho produced a spectacular bicycle kick against Everton, only three minutes into the game, on Sunday November 26.
Garnacho, 19, has been a rising star for United over the past year, however, his sensational strike is easily the high point of his so far short career. In a post-match interview, the Argentine star said he “can’t believe it to be honest.” He went on to say “it’s still November, but probably one of the goals of the season.
The goal was reminiscent of Wayne Rooney’s bicycle kick for Manchester United against Manchester City in 2011. Garnacho himself said “it is very much like Rooney’s goal. I don’t know which one is better.”
Manchester United’s eventual 3-0 win over Everton would not see Garnacho receive perfect feedback. United captain Bruno Fernandes said, “he is not a great player yet, but he has a great future ahead.” Fans will certainly be hoping for Garnacho’s form to continue after his bright start to life at the club.
Garnacho’s goal was also followed by his idol’s, Cristiano Ronaldo, celebration. United manager, Erik Ten Haag, has warned, “don’t compare, I don’t think its right.” Ten Haag famously did not get on well with Ronaldo and was vital in the Portuguese star’s departure from Old Trafford. Garnacho seems to be in his manager’s good books for now and will hope to stay there.
United travel to St James Park to face Newcastle United on Saturday December 2, a challenging fixture. Garnacho will hope to continue his goal scoring form, even if it is not quite as special of a goal as he scored against Everton.
