With Khama Billiat’s contract expected to expire in June 2023, there is an indication that the Zimbabwe international contract will be extended by Kaizer Chiefs. The Chiefs forward has been out most of the current Dstv Premiership season due to injury and has returned to training.
The Zimbabwe international has played 11 games in all competitions and has not scored a goal, however, has managed four assists. The Chiefs playmaker has been criticized by Amakhosi supporters for his lack of conviction ever since he joined the club from Mamelodi Sundowns.
However, with a lot of criticism, Chiefs look like they still want to have the 32-year-old’s services. Despite his lack of playing time, Billiat on his day can be vital for Chiefs but the player’s future at the club has been questionable.
According to Soccer Laduma, a source has alluded to the fact that the player has been worried about his future at the club given his consistent injuries but is pleased with how things are looking.
“Things are looking different now. When he was still nursing the injury, it seemed like his future was doomed but now that he has started training, the team is looking at his contract in a different way. It is not granted that they will give him a one-year extension, but things are looking better than before. There are positive signs that he would extend his contract for a year,” a source revealed according to Soccer Laduma.
An extension for Billiat is more likely than not and given the signs the Amakhosi technical team still believes in the Zimbabwean international. Amakhosi will be banking on the 32-year-old to help them qualify for the CAF Champions League.
“The technical team still believes in him. It has just been unfortunate that he has been out injured but now that he is fit, they want to see how his experience can help the team next season and that’s what can also influence the one-year contract extension,” the source added.
