COVID-19 outbreak in Sri Lankan Camp Postpones Schedule


Shikhar Dhawan is set to make his captaincy debut against Sri Lanka. However his wait continues after a Covid-19 breakout in host’s camp. As India is going to face England in a five test series from 4th August, a lot of youngsters and debutants have been called in for this series. Before India’s first match Padikkal, Ruturaj, Chetan Sakariya, Nitish Rana and Varuk Chakravarthy were seen posing in front of the camera.


On Saturday BCCI (The Board of Control of Cricket) and SLC (Sri Lankan Cricket Board) announced that the series has been postponed. Two members of Sri Lanka team tested positive including the batting coach Grant Flower after they returned from England. The series has been delayed for five days. According to the new schedule ODI series will begin from 18th July 2021 and the 1st T20I will begin from 25th July 2021. The timings of the series have also taken a shift.  The ODI timings have been shifted from 1:30 pm to 3:00 pm. Timings for T20 have been moved from 7:30 pm to 8:00pm.


BCCI secretary Jay Shah said: “We understand that circumstances are extraordinary, but the BCCI would like to extend its full support to Sri Lanka Cricket during these tough times for the smooth conduct of the upcoming series. Our medical team is in constant touch with the team of doctors at SLC and together following all safety protocols that will help the series get underway. We are confident that both nations will put up a spirited show in the days to come and we are in for some exciting cricket.”


A lot of fans are eagerly waiting for the series to begin. Hopefully things will get underway with full energy from the players and staff.
