Reports have been circulating that Mduduzi Mdantsane will be heading to Naturena at the end of the season. However, Kaizer Chiefs and Cape Town City are understood to have agreed on terms but have not confirmed that Mdantsane will be the new Kaizer Chiefs signing.
It is believed Cape Town City and Kaizer Chiefs reached a deal following talks that fell out in the final hours of the January transfer window.
The former Baroka midfielder’s contract ends at the end of the current season, however, the Citizens have since decided to extend his contract by one year to avoid losing the player on a free deal and are now able to sell him to Chiefs if the deal finally pulls through.
Mdantsane has been a fundamental player for coach Eric Tinkler this season, having bagged 27 appearances across all competitions. Mdantsane has helped Cape Town City to occupy 5th position in the Dstv league, trailing Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs with four points.
Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs could benefit from Mdantsane’s services, with his flamboyant style of play and the ability to find passes in tight spaces.
Coach Arthur Zwane is known for playing free-flowing football, which compliments Mdantsane’s style of play. Kaizer Chiefs have been struggling to find the back of the net, having only netted 7 goals in 15 games in the league. Caleb Bimenyimana and Christian Saile Basomboli hold the front line at the Naturena, however, have struggled to find the back of the net. Mdantsane could be the key player that coach Zwane needs to complete his team going forward.
Coach Zwane has been criticized for his teams current performances having failed to impress. Chiefs have seen themselves struggling to beat teams comfortable. Chiefs been the top team that have played against 10 men in the league, however, Amakhosi have only won by a thread against Orlando Pirates and Richards Bay and lost against Golden Arrows.
Despite not having a convincing formula in place, Chiefs are currently occupying 4th place in the Dstv Premiership league, level with their Soweto rivals Orlando Pirates on 37 points. Coach Zwane is aiming to qualify for CAF and that requires more muscle in his team.
Mdantsane’s presents will give Chiefs visibility, threat in front of goal, and muscle, which will be vital for a team that is currently lacking presents in front of goal.
Chiefs supporters will be delighted to land the Mpumalanga-born player in their ranks. Mdantsane could be the key to breaking down defences for Chiefs and providing Amakhosi with not only assists but goals as well.
