Chelsea’s 4-1 victory over Tottenham on Monday night showed that through grit (and two red cards for Tottenham) that the club could still pull off a spectacular win, despite their poor form. The star of the show, 22 year old Senegal international Nicolas Jackson.
Chelsea’s number 15 hit three past Tottenham Hotspurs and ensured that Chelsea would not be defeated by a nine man Spurs side which had seen defenders Romero and Udogie sent off, both for double bookings.
Jackson’s goals came in the 75th, 94th and 97th minutes which guaranteed Chelsea’s victory against Spurs. He becomes the first player since 2002 to score three league goals against the North London side.
After a tough start to the season for Chelsea, scoring twice in his last 9 games, insisted that he will “work harder” to ensure that his goal flurry against Tottenham was not a one off. He described the start of the season as “a difficult time for everybody in this team”, however the victory against Tottenham will give much needed confidence to the deflated Chelsea side.
Since his £32 million signing from Villareal, Jackson been a lack lustre signing with many games seeing little to no involvement from the striker as well as a series of missed opportunities which Chelsea fans would liked to have seen go in the back of the net.
Fans on social media were critical, however, with some describing Jackson’s trio as “the worst hattrick ever seen.” The goals were simple and the opposition was depleted but that will not stop the confidence for both Chelsea and Jackson, which was desperately needed.
Chelsea take on Manchester City, current league leaders, on November 12th which may prove to be far more competitive than most would have thought. A victory for Chelsea then would be a heavy upset.
