Who should be the next manager of Chelsea?

The direction of Chelsea under Todd Boehly has been challenging to pinpoint. Replacing Thomas Tuchel with Graham Potter was shocking and ruthless, but it showed he meant business. For the seven months Graham Potter managed Chelsea, many will agree he should have been sacked four months in. Financially, though, Todd Boehly is neither scared nor stingy about spending on players. In the two transfer windows under Todd Boehly, he has spent an eye-watering sum of over £600 million on players alone. The problem, however, is that the players are overpriced and not worth the amount of money. The height of it all is the recent appointment of Frank Lampard as Interim Manager for the rest of the season. If there is any logic or reasoning for appointing Lampard, his first game didn’t prove it.

When sacking Thomas Tuchel for Graham Potter, Todd Boehly made it clear that he wanted a manager for the long term. Few argue that the interim appointment of Lampard is so that Todd Boehly can have time to appoint the next manager for Chelsea. Below, we look at some of the available managers that Chelsea might turn to.

Mauricio Pochettino has been out of work since his abysmal time at PSG. Pochettino still deserves another shot at a big club. His time at Tottenham proved what he was capable of and what he was all about. He built a competitive team with limited resources. Tottenham played the most attractive football in recent memory and achieved Champions League qualification consistently. The biggest criticism of Pochettino's time at Tottenham is that he never won a trophy. He finished as league runners-up in the 2016-2017 season and as a UEFA Champions League finalist in 2019.

Julian Nagelsmannaccording to multiple reports, is considered the favourite coach to replace Graham Potter. He is known for his ability to develop young talents. An ability Chelsea will want him to bring because of their pool of young talents. His time at 1899 Hoffenheim and RB Leipzig proved that he is capable of building a competitive team with young talents. There are reports of scepticism within the Chelsea board about Nagelsmann's age (35). Recent reports suggest he lost control of the Bayern Munich dressing room, which will only add to the scepticism.

Zinedine Zidane is one of the greatest and most technical footballers to ever play the game. He is also a magnificent coach. His three-peat Champions League win with Real Madrid is one of the greatest achievements in modern football history. Zidane’s success has worked against him, as his critics feel he cannot manage another club aside from Real Madrid Football Club.

Luis Enrique is the last coach to win Barcelona a Champions League trophy. Freshly sacked from his position as Spain’s Head Coach, Luis Enrique will be desperate to return to club football. His spell at Barcelona was a success, as they won two league titles, three Copa Del Rey titles, and one Super Cup title in three years. However, this was with Messi, Neymar, and Suarez at their peaks. It remains to be seen if Enrique can deliver without his former stars.
