Mamelodi Sundowns are believed to be thinking of renewing Zwane’s contract as his contract ends in June 2024, however, nothing concrete has been finalized yet. Zwane is one of the pioneers in the Mamelodi Sundowns setup, however, his age might play a factor in Sundowns' decision to renew a long-term contract.
With Sundowns not finally agreeing on a contract yet, it is possible that Sundowns can let the 33-year-old player go at the end of his contract. Zwane has spearheaded Sundowns in the league and the domestic cups, leading the club to championships. Despite that, we have seen that Sundowns are not afraid to let go of their star players. We have seen the defending Dstv Premiership champions release their influential players and Sibusiso Vilakazi was one of the recent players who was released. It has been witnessed that Sundowns' age plays a part in the longevity of a player staying at the club, however, Sundowns might think twice about releasing Zwane.
Sundowns have been reliant on Zwane's services and the possibility of releasing him would be unbelievable, especially for the Sundowns supporters. With Zwane out, Sundowns will lose one of their creative players, a player that is very comfortable on the ball and has an eye for a pass and the back of the net. Despite only finding the back of the net twice and assisting three times, there's more than Zwane does for the team.
A loss for Sundowns would be a blessing for other PSL teams, as they will benefit greatly from having the services of Zwane. However, a few teams might be able to afford the services of Zwane, Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates, Cape Town City, and AmaZulu would be the few teams that can afford Zwane’s services.
However, reports have revealed that if Sundowns strike a deal with Zwane it will be a two-year deal, making him one of the high earners at the club. An Unnamed source is very confident that Sundowns and Zwane will come to an agreement.
“The two-year contract is already on the table. And knowing the parties involved, it won't be long before Themba (Zwane) can sign a new contract. It’s easy when it's done early because, in December this year, he will be a free agent if he doesn’t sign in time. But there is nothing to worry about. All will be fine” a source told the Siya Crew on Wednesday. Zwane’s agent Jazzman
Mahlakgane did not deny nor confirm that a deal with the club has been presented yet, however, he is confident as well that Sundowns and Zwane will negotiate.
“I am not really worried about him. He has been one of the most consistent players on the team and he has done well for himself and the team as well. He is one player at his age who has been consistent for four years in a row. That’s incredible. So, yeah, about the contract, we will definitely be talking, I have no doubt about that,” Mahlakgane told Siya Crew on Wednesday.
