Xavi To Leave Barca At The End Of This Season

A confirmation of the departure of the FC Barcelona legend has been posted on the club's social media accounts. Xavi will be leaving the club at the end of this season. He confirmed via interview that he would leave Barcelona on June 30.

Xavi made the announcement public right after the Villarreal defeat. Xavi's team dramatically lost 5-3 in a home match. They made a comeback in the second half and Barca was down by two goals. In the end, they made it 3-2 in 70 minutes of the game as a winning side.

All the cheering home fans were curbed when Villarreal scored their third goal of Guedes at the 84 of the game.

Barca was awarded the penalty in extra time which was ruled out by VAR. Xavi was furious about this decision by the referees. He can be seen on the camera saying, “This is a disgrace. This is a disgrace.”

Sorloth scored a goal in 99 minutes that led Barcelona to defeat. Then Morales's goals added salt to injury in the 112th minute of the game. The full-time score was 5-3, indeed horrendous for fans, players, and coaches

Xavi said in a post-match press conference, “I have been a man of the club. I have prioritized it above even myself. I have given everything I have. I will continue to do so to make the fans feel proud.”

He added, "For a curler (Barca fan), leaving the club after June would be the best thing to do. This will facilitate a change in the dynamic, and it is still my belief that we will be able to have a successful season. Putting the club first must be my priority. I am resigning because I love Barcelona.”

According to @fansjavimiguel on Twitter, Xavi was on the verge of tears today more than once during the speech. The players clapped a lot and the coach hugged each player afterwards.

These last two defeats broke their backbone. Their defense isn’t up to the mark. Indeed they played a good game, but missed a lot of chances in each game which the coach couldn't do anything with.

Barca president Laporta said in an interview that we appreciate Xavi and give him ample confidence. He is our club legend and he has always wanted his club to be successful. He said we had to work hard to finish higher in the league.

There are various coaches on the market to replace Xavi at Barca as a coach. Players are motivated by Xavi and want him to stay. Xavi and his squad now have less pressure and clear goals ahead. They are sharp-set for the Champions League title for redemption. We will have to wait until the end of the season to see how they fare.
